What is meditation?
Wikipedia defines meditation as, "a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state." You can find many ways to define meditation. I like this broad definition of meditation because it can mean different things to each one of us. At the basic level, we know that in a meditation practice we focus to find awareness. In order to focus, it's helpful to have as little distractions as possible.
Cut Out The Distractions to Increase Focus
- Find a private space
- Close your eyes
- Wear comfortable clothes
- Turn off your phone (or put it on silent)
- Support a good posture
Our bodies are really good at distracting us, especially if we don't feel great. You can cut out an un-needed distraction by ensuring you have the most comfortable and supported position as possible. For many of us, the most comfortable position is seated. But that looks different for each of us.
Finding the best position for your meditation practice can help to lengthen your practice. An easeful practice is a peaceful practice.
We make 3 different sizes of meditation cushions plus a meditation mat to suit your personal needs. Below we've made a comparison chart to help you determine which Love My Mat cushions are right for you.
